Input text with your voice
Ok I''m new to game design. I have no formal training and have hardly popped open a book on the subject, but I do love well made games and hope to at least make a game or two that can be considered fun.
ok here''s my idea on text input.
I know the technology exsists for audio to text input. They have it for word programs. Could such technology be added to multi-player online games or RPGs with text input? I know the technology exsists I just don''t know if something like this is possible.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

It exists, but generally, it sucks.
If I said the above sentence it would turn out:
"It exits, but general lee eats socks."
It''s much better to type.

you can already use most speach to text systems with any game. there was even was software designed especially for this, though i think the company went under. basically it linked particular words/sort phrases to key strokes.
you probably are think along the lines of sending chat messages in that fashion. in that case, its better to send the compressed audio, or let the user type themselves. speach to audio does not work well with wierd names/words.

One Navy Seals game uses headphones to communicate with the game. It would work.

Aram, he''s talking about speech to text not voice record and transmission or even active voice chat.
