Hello everyone. I know what its like. You feel the desire. You have the skills. But you can''t get off the ground. I know what its like. I''m on that bottem level myself. So I came up with an idea: Why not take people on my path to become a game programmer? I belive that there are soo many potential game programmers, but they can''t find the right book, no one will help them, and the Internet? Forget it. Every week, one new lesson. One step closer...Starting right at the beginning. But I have to make sure there is some drive for it. Imagine it. Every step described for you from another beginners standpoint. No person thats WAY too advanced tryign to make money helping a beginner. Best of all..its free? Think there is a catch..I would like you to find one..I just know how it is. If you think this can work, any ideas, whatever, reply. Ryan Gough The truth will always be under a rock......

One question, How does that work???
So far it sounds amazing... and I''ve been looking to be some sort of "Programmer''s Apprentice" and this seems pretty close... yet I feel like this is going to end up being a flame thread... so just explain... Please of course

Yeah, I agree with Archanglia, there definately isn''t enough information given. You say all this stuff about everyone learning for free, but I still have no idea about exactly what it is your planning to do? Please explain more...

Hey man, I don''t wanna sound like a queer or nothin'' but i think unicorns kick ass! -> Orgasmo.
Life is all about expression, so express yourself.
I am pretty much a beginner to game programming too. I do have alot of background in assembly language. I am back in school and took a class in C and another class in C++. I suspect that most of you are like me in that, you want to learn to make a game and you want to learn it now! I have very little patience, just don''t have time for it! Thats one reason why i took the classes, I was forced to learn all the little details of the language. No visual component libraries and fancy GUI''s and etc.
A year ago, I would look at a game programming book and it was overwhelming, go to a site like this and the same thing. Now with these two classes behind me, I understand things like "scope resolution operator", "this pointer", what classes really are, etc, etc. Am i a pro yet? not by a long shot. I am able to now read thru this site, or game programming books and not be totally overwhelmed. I can now understand and really see the wisdom in what the guru''s at this site are trying to say.
In a nutshell it is, get some training in C++, get a good book on game programming and do a really simple game like pong or pacman. I got the book, "The Zen of Direct 3d game programming"
by Peter Walsh. I know now that if i go thru this book, step by step, i really can learn to write a game. ok, i tend to ramble alot, (my train of thought takes the scenic route!) my advice would be to forget about writing a game for now and spend a year just learning C++. It will be so much easier in the long run and then when you do go to write a game, you can concentrate on learning all the things that go with that and not wondering what the heck things like "::" means!
I hope this helps,
Peace,
Jana

Many of you have been asking how is this going to run. Its Simple: Once a week, I will post a detailed lesson. And mind you, we can''t immmediatly start with games. Its much better to start small and work up. After the lesson, I will take questions, in which i will locate sites I think best answer those questions and give them too you...is that detailed enough??
