The thread was created for the LOTR : Fellowship of the Ring contest back in 2002.
The thread started as an invitation to the contest (while NeHe still wasn''t sure to announce it), then followed the evolution of the contest, and finished with comments for the submitted entries.

The thread was created around March 2003 (not sure the exact date) on this forum, obviously

Later, I heard from Myopic Rhino (one of the two creators of GameDev) that the thread wad deleted by NeHe, in fact by "the NeHe login". If someone else than Jeff can use his login, it may not be the work of Jeff Molofee himself. I''m not willing to accuse anyone, I''m just wondering why this has been done if the person that did it reads this page and is nice enough to answer. AFAIK, no offense of any kind has been made in the thread. No spam, no flame, no spolier (not too much), nothing that could deserve a deletion IMHO.
Hey guys ... now everyone calm down I personally did not delete the LOTR thread ( why would I, it was on my fav subject)but I just got in from work and Jeff is sleeping, but I will ask him if he did. You never know he might of deleted it because the contest was over but I cant say for sure. I''ll let you know

Evil, nobody told that you deleted this thread
And anyway, knowing who did it is not important. It is "why" that is important IMO. No doubt there was a good reason, but which one ?
OK... I wasn''t here at that time...

But 500+ posts is pretty impressive!!
As far as I remember it was the biggest thread ever posted at the NeHe Productions forum.
Jeff does not know what happened to the thread, who said it was a NeHe login that deleted it?

It was Myopic Rhino. He checked the log file of gamedev.net which keeps track of every moderator activity, like every message boards do.

Maybe NeHe can check this log file himself ?

AFAIK, no. It''s a server side thing that staff can do.
I would post the email, but I don''t have it anymore :/.
I guess all we can do is accept the loss With any luck, TTT contest will prove as discussable; "May it be a journey on to light the day"
