OpenGL or DirectX?
Im starting to feel comfortable with the basic stuff in OpenGl but what about DirectX?
Is it better/worse? What is the difference?
Thanx..
This kinda topic can start a flame war. In general, similar things can be done with both, it just really depends on which one *you* like best.

Some people like OpenGL and others like DirectX
Some time ago there was a article at gamedev openlg vs directx. Maybe you should read that one..
And with the search on gamedev you can find many of this kind of threads

Why dont you stop being lazy and make your own graphics API. Then write drivers for all major video cards for it.
first of all if you don''t use Glide then you''re lost.... and secondly, well, i dunno....

This question should be banned for all time or put somewhere (For Beginners?) where it can sit like a pile of discarded nuclear waste. Of course since only .1% of n00bs reads the For Beginners that really won''t help.
I''m partial to GDI myself. Ha.
OpenGL is easier to use and is multi-platform.
DirectX is a hotter API to use, and video board manufacturers seem to be paying more attention to DirectX''s capabilities than OpenGL''s.
Still, there are extensions to OpenGL that allow operations like multitexturing and other advanced operations
When in doubt, learn both
But OpenGL is easier for grasping the concepts of 3D rendering. Neither has been proven to be absolutely faster or better, as far as I know.

It's not what you're taught, it's what you learn.

Oh God, I feel the heat coming already!
I''ve been using DX for the past 2 years, and well..it''s going good. However, when I see OpenGL samples, I start kickin myself cuz it looks so easy! Well, it''s easier when it comes to initialization. So, come to think bout it...I would''ve much rather started with OpenGL as a newbie.
Just my 2 cents.

It would seem the Anonymous Cowards are setting the flaming tone for this thread rather than the members. Since I''d rather not close or delete this I would suggest everyone post with your real name and keep it nice.
(And as for the AP''s, yes we do know who both of you are, in particular the one who has posted in the past against making flames. Try practicing what you preach, and if you keep trying to incite flames using APs I''ll just delete the offending message)
