Planning a Game
Well, to say the least, myself and a group of friends of mine are planning an Online 3D RPG, and, to be honest, we''ve got no idea where to start. We know how to program, we''ve been doing it for years, but we''ve never actually done anything big like what we''re planning now and we''d like to get it right. =P
Could some proffesional out there give us some tips, hehe?

Try online tetris before you try an online RPG. You''ll have a better idea of what goes into making a game.

That is THE stupidest fucking collumn ive ever seen. (the how to make tetris in 43232 something steps...anyway Get rid of it cuz it depreciates this site dramaticly. Thanks.
What the... where the hell did THAT come from??
And if you want any advice, then take glassJAw''s. Well, the first tidbit anyways. The second one will only reduce your brain to mush. My local IGDA chapter narrowed the choice of games down to two: Spy Hunter clone and Breakout. I voted for Breakout but Spy Hunter won out. It was our first project. That was in February. We still haven''t gotten any screens. Don''t even bother with an online 3D RPG. I know it sounds cool but it''s really quite stupid. If you can admit to not knowing what you''re doing you can admit that starting small is OK. Use the smaller project to develop your API wrappers or engine or what have you, as well as get a feel for the development process. Then you can tackle the 3D RPG (if, by then, you still are not humbled).
Good luck.

Hmm... well I''ve made all the simple games, and even a basic online 2D RPG, what I was really trying to get at was that I''m pretty sure we can make the game and we think we should start small like suggested and then expand on it, but what I''m really trying to ask is which specific part of the programming should I start at. Mind you, Gaiiden answered this fairly well, so thanks Gaiiden.
