Morrowind is the third chapter in the Elder Scrolls series and the sequel to Daggerfall. It is set to release in April. Can this game do really well. Do gamers really want a completely pathless world. Do they want the ability to do anything, or in RPGs would they rather have more set paths? And will the system requirements scare off some gamers? MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: * Windows ME/98 128 MB RAM * Windows XP/2000 256 MB RAM * 500 MHz Intel Pentium III, Celeron, or AMD Athlon processor * 8x CD/DVD-ROM Drive * 1 GB free hard disk space * Windows swapfile * DirectX 8.1 (included) * 32MB Direct3D compatible video card and DirectX 8.1 compatible driver * DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card * Keyboard, Mouse RECOMMENDED: * 800 MHz or faster Intel Pentium III or AMD Athlon processor * 256 MB RAM * NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS, or ATI Radeon 7500 or faster video card.
Wow, that game has insane level graphics. I had a screenshot of it as my desktop wallpaper for like 3 weeks.

In an RPG I do like a more dynamic and non-linear world, but definately not if it means sacraficing good story (which if designed well, it doesnt have to). I really dont know a whole lot about morrowind, but from what I have heard, it seems really cool. I think I would probablly get it if i had the system. I think this thing would bring ASCI White to its knees.

I hear you my friend, I have been anticipating the next elder scrolls since FOREVER!!! I never got to play arena, but daggerfall (elderscrolls 2), well, that was sweet!

JOHN CARMACK IS GOD!!!!
as I see it there are two extremes in RPGs : guiding you through a scripted story/mission (Ultima Underworld, System Shock, and soon Arx Fatalis) via cut scenes and more or less interactive dialogues with NPCs, or letting the player freely roam a hopefully massive world with little or no guidance at all (Sea Dogs, Elder Scrolls).
Personally I prefer to have as many possibilities and choices as possible : if I don''t want to go an kill the big bad monster, but instead just want to explore a bit and chill out in some medieval city, then I want to be able to do it instead of being forced to fight. The problem with massive freely explorable worlds is that they are dull. Most cities and places you can visit are generic, the NPCs have nothing or nothing worth mentioning to say. In the case of Morrowind, the saying is that each little stone and bush was placed by hand and the NPCs are supposed to have some personality ... I''m really eager to find out.

I guess that''s also one of the reason why MMORPGs are successfull : the places you can visit are often quite interesting and, although the NPCs are extremely dull (ever played ''find the keyword'' with an NPC in Everquest??) you can live most of your roleplaying life without talking to one at all, and instead have more or less interesting talks with other players (though they can be even duller than the NPCs at time

This is coming out on the XBox too. I have really been looking forward to it. It looks amazing.
