Tolkien Fonts :)
Hi there!
For sure, many people are working for the L.O.T.R contest
I just found this cool website with free Tolkien fonts (it includes Dwarf Runes, Elfish fonts and a lot more).
I think this could be useful for you guys, if you are trying to enhance the look of your demo.
Good luck to everyone!

PS: I saw the Geforce 4 Ti on the Game Developer Conference (lots of demos and games). And I must confess... wow... what a piece of nice harware. Really amazing.

Cool. Ill check the site out. Btw.. I have a friend that jsut bought a geforce4 ti4600 for his p4 2ghz. (Jummy!)

on the simmilar note : How do you install some font to system at program runtime? (so you can load them via CreateFont(...) ) ?

Mordred: I HATE your friend! lol. If you have the opportunity try to take a look at the latest GF4 Ti demos, especially the "Wolfman" one (the fur effect and the bump mapping of the model''s texture are great), and the real-time terrain rendering application (grass moving with the wind... reflections on the water... and an awesome LOD).
Darkwing: hummm... maybe I''m wrong, but I think you need to install the fonts using the control panel. But as I said... "maybe" was a wrong word, ''cause I probably I''m totally incorrect, hehe. Anyway I will check this info for you, and try to post the answer as soon as possible.
Now... still on the Tolkien topic, a friend of mine just gave me an elfish dictionary, along with a complete map of Middle Earth. Well... maybe this could be only cool for hardcore purists and Tolkien fans, but if anyone is interested, feel free to e-mail me at gameover@vtr.net
Bye!

Yeah I saw the wolfman, and that mystic-girl dancing. I couldnt speak for an hour!!! Impressive!
gameovercl : I know how to instal them via control panel/or just copying it in fonts folder but I have to make a function that does that since CreateFont() takes font name as paramether not font filename.

My font for the demo wont be a windowsfont. It will be a freestanding font with alot of cool properties.. (hopefully).
I find the win-fonts boring (speacialy if you cant import your own).

mordred : I realy don''t like custom font formats becouse it''s very hard to come by some you like. Windows fonts (TTF) are just fine if I could find a way to install them with program. And then you just render them to texture (and add some fancy stuff like gaussian blur
) and you have something simmilar to NeHe''s fonts and you have both : fast and "custom" fonts

So, if you''re rendering the font to a texture anyway , then why do it at run-time. Just render the font you want to a texture yourself, then save the texture. That way, you can use any font without having to install it.
Or am I missing something??

The best thing about the internet is the way people with no experience or qualifications can pretend to be completely superior to other people who have no experience or qualifications.
