Interesting. If I recall correctly, on Win95 the console could be maximized full screen as well. I wonder if MSVC operates in similar fashion to a console program? It also seems that this kind of problem could easily be fixed if MSVC was open source, but I guess that's beyond expectations. You might try the microsoft newsgroup for MSVC - check the groups section at google to see if anyone has asked this question before and then go from there.

PS. I don't use MSVC so I can't tell you if that behavior manifests on Win2K also.

Well, that solves my basic problem, but I want to able to see the name of the program also. Thanks for that command though. It''s really helpful. If nothing else works, I''ll use that then.
