Brainstorm: all the hybrids
Simply post game ideas as a sum of two or more games or genres(plus a little extra description).
Here are mine:
Transport Tycoon + RTS. All the player handles is the logistics in a RTS battle. Road-building, assign transports, sending different kinds of troops and of supplies to different parts of the battlefield. All the fighting is based on a simple AI that decides to advance if the enemy is inferior (but not too far off the supply bases), retreat if the enemy is superior, waste ammo if plenty are available, else save ammo, etc.
Lemmings + Worms. Real-time battle game. All the warrior lemmings fight using a very simple decision making routine (just like in lemmings, except with a few extra rules for fighting).
Futuristic Private eye (man, you simply can''t get any darker than that!!)
Pest control RTS (like Rats) crossed with FPS, so you move through infested areas in first person view (hey I really like that one, if you make it and it sells, CREDIT ME!)
Construction game (à la Sim City) crossed with the above, so you not only build factories and plants, but then you move through them clearing out vermin and keeping it going.
I''m on a roll tonight!

Mix an RPG with... PONG!! >:D
Meet all the NPC paddles and battle the balls. Make it a MMORPG.

RTS + DDR + REZ! Realtime strategy based on music harmony and spiders. I already described what the game is like in the harmonics thread. All I can really say is the game will be played with the intensity of fun like an RTS, a very new approach to resource management (you don''t harvest gold, you harvest "notes" from the music), and the visuals effects like those cool window media players; where you can plug in the midi mod file and the whole game will interact with you. The spiders (each cordinate to a specific note) will dance and blink lights like a firefly when it''s cued on music, the webs cords will also vibrate when they''re played, and plus there will be some kind of cool visual effect like an aurora, black hole, or time warp pattern in background the whole time. Damn it''s so hard to describe what my vision of the game is like. Back to incubation...

Monster Rancher <--> FPS: You raise your own monsters which you must control in a first person view to go into dungeons.
MMORPG <--> Educational: You must build your character and go seek out the finest treasures by doing fractions, and reciting shakespearian stories.
RTS <--> Tetris You must must build your fortress walls by building fortress walls with tetris blocks. Their strength is determined by how many holes you made. Build special buildings by making difficult patterns.
Space flight sim <--> Adventure Oh wait, thats Wing Commander Privateer. =D

I''m pretty sure this has been done on console, just not in English but Japanese.

This is the dream of a ton of MMORPG designer. The problem is how do you effectively encourage and reward players on reciting stories and such?

This is a great topic! I think all the best games are hybrids to some extent. Most of my game ideas are hybrids. Here are a few:
RPG + Sports Simulation = You manage a team of RPG characters in a league composed of various teams. You control trades, salaries, starting lineups, and purchase items for all team members. The seasons play out with playoffs, champions, etc...
RPG + Sports Simulation + Gambling = RPG characters who fight in a tennis-style bracket format. 64 characters fight for riches. However, YOU aren''t one of them. Instead, you manage a novice combatant, and make money only by betting on the players. You can also make money if your character wins a tournament. You pick the bracket, as well as place special bets such as guessing the semifinalists, finalists, scores of various matches, etc... Any winnings you have can be placed into weapons and armor for your character, or for bets in the tournament.

Thanks to Kylotan for the idea!
FPS + MMORPG + EDUCATIONAL GAME : basically, the game revolves around you sitting in front of a computer monitor , along with a lot of other players (the twist being that, although you know that there are a lot of people ''out there'' you never actually see them!) and your aim is to write a working DirectX game, while searching really cool message boards and websites (the educational part being not only learning DirectX and C++, but also to learn using search engines). The FPS part comes in when you search for props to use against your computer case or your keyboard or inventive ways to throw books against walls.
Hmm .. wait ... I think I must be playing that game right now
(and sorry ... but I couldn''t resist)
