"Find a Nintendo game produced by Shigeru Miyamoto. Play it, ignoring the lack of jiggle-upon-jiggle. Say, ''omg.''"

I love his pre-N64 games, but everything in the last, what, 6-8
years I just haven''t found all that great.

Oh well. Tastes differ. It would be tragic to palm the GCN off just because you didn''t like the games on N64, though. Nintendo have been relaxing their policy on ''family games'' lately.

My hope:

There will be as many different types and kinds of games as there are types and kinds of fiction novels. Otherwise, I fear gaming will be a marginalized side-culture, like model train hobbying or comic book collecting.

(After all, if the only novels out there were written by Ian Fleming, Tom Clancy, and Steven King, how long would you keep reading?)

Don''t worry--it''s happening. Sort of. Just look at wierd, original games like the Harvest Moon series and Animal Forest(+). Majestic (the interactive conspiracy fiction game thingie) may have been cancelled after only a few "episodes", but it proved there''s a marke t for that kind of thing. And don''t forget some of the new MMORPGs coming out. I just read about one where you play as a spaceship, but it is an RPG. The problem is that some kinds of games seem to be dieing off to offset the influx of new genre makers and breakers. Adventure games, for instance. Oh well, just treat that hope of yours as a self-fulfilling prophecy and it''ll come to pass.
