sound in space?

argh, am I the only one who just hate it when they use sound in space? that doesn''t only apply to games but films as well. but then again, how cool would it have been to have a tie-fighter fly by without making that tie-fighter-sound-they-do? anyway, music is fine, laser-thingy sounds are not! learn your physics! (yah, i know sounds can be transported in gas clouds) _______________________ http://mill.3dfxsweden.net

But it would just be like taking a sense away, imagine a game with no visuals-it would "suck".
Also deaf people wouldn't be able to play.

EDIT:
Realism isn't always the best choice.

Don''t ask for too much. This is from the same people who give us horribly unrealistic views of typing, playing musical intstruments, fighter dogfights, etc. in movies. For many directors/producers/designers that is just a detail that they don''t know much about or care about and they figure that no one else should as well.

When I was in EverQuest, I asked why the moon moved across the sky on an axis 90 degrees off from the sun (and at the same speed!), and all they told me was that I wasn''t on earth.

Wouldn''t a soundless game in space be kinda boring though?
It's not what you're taught, it's what you learn.
Sorry, maybe I''m not good at Astronomy, but would''nt it be possible for this to happen?
The Moon doesnt have anything to do with the Sun, right?
I don''t think real-world physics should supercede creative license.

i also find it annoying how they have fires and shockwaves from explosions in many movies/games in space... i could see the explosion of a ship if it had some flammable or explosive fuel that got blown open, but the damn things wouldn''t just trail flames and smoke (as there is no oxygen to burn with)... and shockwaves are caused by the compression of gasses, so although an exploding deathstar might irradiate and blind you, it wouldn''t send your ship spinning off out of control.
hey, come to think of it, didn''t the star cruisers in star wars kinda "sink" when they got shot up real good? wtf?

haven''t played everquest, but not only is that a lame answer, but seems like something really simple to implement, just make the moon move slower, as if the moon and sun were clock needles, am I missing something here? total eclipses would be a cool thing to have dont you think?

I guess since its natural for us to have sound all around all the time, even if it is physicaly correct not to have sound in space, it would seem unnatural to us I think, so that might be a good excuse for it.

yah, i agree that to some extent that one must neglect the laws of physics to make it entertaining, but i just can't help thinking about it! btw, in 2001, i think they didn't have any sounds in space except for music

- nah, they just do computer related stuff

EDIT: 2001 as in the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey" for those (none) who haven't seen it
