Game Design: Secrets of the Sages
I have that book for sale, if anyone is interested, please e-mail me with an offer/questions.
Thank you,
-Glad
Incedentally, I have the book as well, and I recommend it to any potential buyers. It''s a great read if not an excelent rescource for ideas and methodology.

ha, cool, I have it too, I have tome 1. But I always thought it was a cheap way of making some quick cash. I don''t know.
I bought it in grade 11(in Quebec, it''s the last high school year), and I remember I noted personal ideas in it all through, and underlining all the important stuff....
Yeah, I guess it was a good read after all...

which part did you guys enjoy most? Me, it was level design and 3d graphics.
I didn''t read the programming part yet, since I don''t understand it :/

Hello guys
I have the first edition only. If anyone is interested, it''s on auction at eBay. I also have Windows Game Programming for Dummies by LaMothe on there too.
Here''s the link for all the books/items I have there, real cheap: here
I have some other books that will go out for a cent each so be on the look out :p
Thanks guys,
-Glad

O_O I found my 2nd edition under a pile of programming books. I would have forgotten all about if it wasn''t for this thread.
It''s a great book to read but I don''t think it''s a good source if you''re fishing for ideas. But it''s definately good for polishing up the game.
As of right now, I''m re-reading the sound engineering, marketing and public relations, and the tech support chapters.

Yeah a friend of mine has the 2nd edition, and I did read that too, but it seems a little rushed at places. I would have to say the 1st edition was thought through carefully, and the second is still a great volume, but it seems like they were all in it for the money. Still, 2nd edition is quite good compared to some of the books on game design out there, and there aren''t that many great books out there on game design (Game Design and Architecture is pretty good).

I bought the first one, and was given the second as a present. If you haven''t got it yet, get the second. Everything from number one is in the second, with more added.
I agree though, lots of cool little tidbits in it. It inspired me to start my "Design No-No''s" list. I keep a pad next to my comp and I write down any aggravating "features" so I know not to include them in anything I work on.

I got the second edition in a game development kit from EB. the book was great and helped to lead me to my current position as a designer. Only thing is, when I got near the end of the book, there was some huge publishing error! The book repeated chapters 11-14 and I never got the chance to expereince the full value of it. I even tried calling the publishers and distributers of the book, but they told me they don''t make any more prints, so I couldn''t get another copy (sigh) .
