crazy, out of the box ideas
Here it goes:
Latley i''ve been seeing more games then ever before being made... and yet, I''m seeing less and less creativity. It seems almost everyone is making "the next big" fps/mmpog/rpg and I see myself doing the same.
I want to break out of this. Lets see everyone throw out the crazyest ideas.
Come on...
An insane asylum motif opens a lot of possibilities. Aside from the numerous literary and cinematic sources from which to draw upon, there was an excellent discussion regarding mmpogs and what happens to a character while the user isn't playing (Thought regarding persistent game worlds ) that could be thrown wide open viz an insane asylum.

crazyest ideas ehh?
How about an adventure game (im not realy into them) thats nice and slo. But the thing is, all of it is on the internet. The game will be coded in PHP (Perl hypertext preprocesor, syntax is C), All the gameplay will be multyplayer though, not realtime though. Kind of like magestic, but all on one website (hosted by SourceForge ofcorse. The multiplayer part will be using a virtual comunity to keep all the player states (will be stored in an mySQL database). The players will be able to send each-other private messages through, well, private massages!
The goul of the game will be somthing frouty, like to rescue a randomly picked player.
This realy wown''t be "games" but "game" bacause everyone will be playing it all at the same time.
To make it eaven better, only one game will start, like, every month. Like the first week, everyone who wants to play, registers in the comunity, and. Then one of the project admins prosses "The Button" on some admin page that picks a random guy who gets kidnaped (or somthing like that), and sends him an email (yes, theres a mail(); function in PHP). All the rest of the players will be notifies via email.
An important part of this is, no ones real identity will be revealed. Only the project admins can go to the page with all that info (and not play the game , but they can play the game the next time it starts if they wish not to administrate for that time).
... ok, im about done, but i might add some more ideas later.
If don''t realy know what PHp can do to a site, check out this, and this.
- err, the last signiture sucked bigtime!

Rate me up.
A dragon roleplaying game.
You pick a species of dragon and develop your skills and increase in size as you go. (Skills include breath weapons, maneuverability, speed, strength, reflexes, stamina, etc.)
Could me massively multiplayer or just single player I guess, maybe stationed above the clouds with spires, guarding the world kind of thing.
Of course there would have to be the bad-guy dragons, too.
Special magic items for powerups, other creatures to fight, realms to explore, etc. NPCs...
.......
You are this yellow circle running around in blue corridors consuming white dots.
OH! and there are uh... four cloaked figures each with a different color and behavior chasing you!
Wait, they''ve done that already...
Pretty crazy when you think about it though.
Seems games become less when they become more real...

It's not what you're taught, it's what you learn.

cool. I think maybe sandbox kind of game that we played with as kids where as bunch of unrealated toys battle it out. Maybe in 3d?
I agree about the large, basic fps shooters taking over. The best selling games are always the ones that are different (aka: not shooters) and easy for the casual gamer/computer user. EX: The Sims. Best selling game ever. Cheezy as hell.

Good call.
Ya. I enjoyed the small solduer maps of team fortress "a lot". It would be fun to see something like this in a single player game.
Or maybe there already is something.?.

Heres an idea i''ve been toying with for a while, after reading a large dose of dilbert.
Sim Cubefarm. You have to manage a large array of cubicles, making sure their residents have the latest computers, and a high enought moral, etc. Things like janiters and cube size would come into play.

sunandshadow was working on something like this.
AfTeRmAtH: That''s not of a useful idea, since everything you described was implementation and not concept. Sorry.
I like competitive rhythm games, and I think there''s still a lot of opportunity in the genre. Dance Dance Revolution is simply about dancing, right? How about a game that pits dancers against Dee-Jays? How about head-to-head MCs (a la PaRappa the Rapper)?
I might be back to elaborate on this. The Phantom''s on Sci-Fi and I haven''t seen it in about 5 years...
