loading a bmp for texture mapping

im having trouble trying to load a bmp for texture mapping. Could someone please tell me how it is done. thanks in advance

finian, this forum is "NeHe Productions". It looks like obvious to visit NeHe site, isn't it ?
The tutorial that George2 is talking about is Lesson 22 : Bump-Mapping, Multi-Texturing & Extensions

Well - most of NeHe''s tutorials load image files for use as OpenGL textures. If in doubt use OpenIL (Go to www.sourceforge.net and run a seach for the OpenIL project), though this will mean learning yet another API, you''ll be able to load pretty much any image format under the sun *g*
