3d studio max doubt
I''ve been going crazy trying to figure out how to cut shapes out of objects. Say a plane or a cube created in 3ds max, how would I cut out a circle or a rectangle. I''ve tried editing the mesh but it does not give satisfactory results. Is there any way I could subtract something from the whole object like placing a cylinder in the plane would cut out a circular shape?
A good tutorial would greatly help or if it''s that easy instructions would do.
I hope someone can answer me.
Thanks.

For your example: In the geometry section select
compound objects in the dropdown list. There you will find
the boolean "A-B" operation which is what you are looking for.
For some tutorials you always have: www.3dcafe.com. To get
started I recomend you to buy a book about 3d studio, you
will find recomendations at the same site. There is a forum
there as well.

To do what you want to do you could just draw a square with the 2D spline shapes, then a circle, then attatch them (they must be converted to editable splines). Then extrude. If poly count is not an issue extrude it very thin other wise convert to editable mesh and delete all the faces except the top ones that you will want. Understand? Are you a newbie to MAX? As stated above just check out tutorials to become more familiar and check out Amazon.com for book reviews of MAX books.
