A slightly different topic
I''m doing a bit of researsh for a game I want to develop, though there are a quite a few differences than what is (probably) normaly posted here.
1) Its going to be completely built in macromedia flash as an multipule user on-line game.
2) there won''t be any C++, openGL etc.
What I''m looking for is in the general game design info and tips from those in the know (that''s why I came here) and if I''m luck some sample code in whatever language on the most common elements in game design:
Tile base map generators, character movement, character generation, game design for RPG type games (I have already read most of what is in the game design section on this topic) and game world scenarios (the list goes on).
So if anyone outthere has any tips + trick that you might think is useful please post''em or if you know where i can find sample code for any of the above or what ever you think might be handy (character movemet in an isometric map screen is my current worry) it would be greatly appreciated!
;)
From my Flash days, I always found Friends of ED books to be great references and learning material. I haven't tried this book out but it's probably great as all the others were - Flash Games Studio

Thanks Drew,
But I have the Friends of ED Flash Game Studio, and the Dynamic content Studio for storing and retreving data on the web. But I''m missing game spicifics like algorithems for creating opened map screens, setting up NPC''s, NPC that keep track of the world as it developes. You see I want this to be a live world which will grow itself as more and more characters explore and grow. The problem with the books is they are very general they only use one type of character control (key presses not mouse controled movement) and not muce on isometric map generation etc. etc.
(sorry i''m ranting now) that why i am looking for "computer game" examples as opposed to "internet game" examples. The books are a good start but i still have a lot of questions!

Hmm... can''t help you much then. However if you haven''t already, you might want to check out the IGF finalist Banja Taiyo , which looks like a Flash game, although it may be Shockwave, I''m not entirely sure. We''ll find out after I interview them tho

Yep its all done in flash, not shockwave. theres been about 11 to 12 episodes so far, its kind of a big game with little games inside. Is graphicly pritty cool but not the most smooth (not that i can critise!!!!!) in control or game play (outside the little games) but its got a nice story which they update to keep you interested. Have you checked out http://www.dubit.co.uk ? Its not a game as such but a large chat room, but they do have games in the little world they created, even a old school interactive fiction game. worth checking out if your interested!!
;)
