What is the standard for working with developers, artists, etc. on a contract basis, especially in a distributed arrangement? Is it project based (and if so, on what terms) or is it ususally an hourly arrangement? Dave Mark Intrinsic Algorithm Development "Reducing the world to mathematical equations!"

It pretty much depends on the kind of work and what either party prefers. Usually the contract is based upon some kind of effort estimation which is basically a calculation of the hours going into the project*hourly rate*1,5 or 2.

btw: the world doesn´t need to be reduced to mathematical equasions - mathematics already is the language of the universe, there can be no reduction to what is already all-encompassing.

The standard in a distributed arrangement (IE they are working freelance) is to pay on a weekly or monthly milestone basis. You would agree the work that has to be delivered with the artist and when it is delivered you review it, approve it and pay.
