Hi.. I''m still working on a 3D-engine and I want this rocket of mine to have some kind of smoketrail behind it..;-) Sooo.. if anybody has an equation for smoke, some cool links or just some advise on how smoke "acts"... then I would really appreciate it.. Thanx.. Halloko
Make the smoke particles start small, and over time make them get bigger and more transparent as they float away.

Float away to all sides..??

Or should I implement some kind of weather-force??

Halloko
All particle systems should have some way of implementing force on the particles. I made mine so it can have an unlimited number of attractors(gravity) and repellers. I can set their effective range, if the grav fields fade out, and how strong they are. This, combined with the particle weights and some math makes for a perfect influence system that is very flexible. I highly recommend this meathod. But people all do their own thing.

Try looking at:
http://freespace.virgin.net/hugo.elias/

it has pages on all kinds of stuff including particle systems, with a demo of one showing a really good smoke effect.

The more specific page is:
http://freespace.virgin.net/hugo.elias/models/m_partic.htm

or (to download the demo):
http://freespace.virgin.net/hugo.elias/graphics/smoke.zip

it requires DOS4GW (which i think you can get from the site).

hope that helps,
