I'm giving away the game file (Clickteam 2.5 game engine) of this abandoned project. Life got in the way and now I realize that this was too big of an endeavor for a solo game developer. Two years went into this.
I envisioned this project as an exploration and puzzle game with philosophical and psychological aspects. 'The Witness' is a game that comes to my mind that could have similarities, namely, breaking the 4th wall.
The game would start, each time, in a different environment, sometimes even having different game genres and styles. For example, an isometric top-down game, a point and click, a 2D FPS, and so forth, but all related to a common thread, which is the paradox of the permanence of impermanence of all things. Sometimes these forces assume actual characters, two brothers, for instance, that, along the story confront each other. At each level's ending a musical note was to be given, and in positioning them in a sequence at the end of the game, would unlock a small original ebook with aphorisms.
The main game dynamics start by gamifying reality itself. Starting the game would be a game in itself. So the premise. The game's quote would be: For dedication to life is a chore, but living it is playing.
You would build the world as you walk. While communicating with the characters, they'd give clues about what to do. By putting together the landscape puzzles you'd be able to modify the world so much to move forward in the game's storyline. Unlike going through the play areas traditionally, this time you'd walk through the concepts of their elements. You'd be able to mix them, constructing the landscape to advance, and conceptually walk through the progress of the game to develop your personal story.
The game is only 10% done, maybe. The game design and dynamics are minimally functional. There are no sound effects, no music, no dialog. Interestingly, there are 2D first-person adventure levels and a would-be 2D first-person shooter (has no gun mechanics). You can try this for yourself and utilize whatever you like if you see fit for your projects. Or maybe it gives you a new cool idea.
