Grand project too big for beginner

Hello, I'm a 50-year-old veteran gamer of many genres and experienced writer and musician. I suffered a brain injury 13yrs ago and the project I was undergoing continues to suffer now I'm looking to learn to develop small programs in order to break into the game development world more as a retiring Hobby in the next decade.
