It's a simple show of respect not to use obsolete terminology. When you say things like this, it does not give me the impression that you respect people who are unlike yourself. I suggest that this is not a look that will win you friends either online or offline.

I've been calling them Native Americans but “Indian” isn't derogatory.

ED: I see that saying “I've been calling them Native Americans” could be reworded to sound less offensive to “I use the term Native American” but I wasn't being offensive in the first place so I don't care.
