I tried to generate my own .fnt font with the generator but wasn't able to find an option for the € symbol.

I remember using BMFont at some point - https://www.angelcode.com/products/bmfont/​ - it did allow for unicode characters, so it should support EUR symbol. I just launched recent version and it does have EUR symbol under Currency Symbols (you have to check them to be exported into bitmap font).
