Plus the more you move up the ladder the more those meetings happen. By the time you get “senior” on your job title it's a fight to keep more than half your day meeting free. Get the words like “lead”, “principle” and similar and you'll be writing code during meetings unless you're running them because that's the only way to get things done without extra hours. At that level or above you're not considered an individual contributor any more, but a good chunk of your time is spent enabling other people instead which means near-continuous conversation.
