model restrictions
Am I correct in saying that the half life model format of .mdl is limited to 256x256 textures, at 256 bit quality? Or something similar?
If so.. what are the limitations to .md3? I get the impression that there are no urgent restrictions to this type...
Thanks,
Dachande
Seems like you don''t like 256x256 textures... it''s already big ! most textures can be done with 128x128 or less, use 256x256 for a few high resolution textures if you really need to, and you just won''t need anything higher.

I''m simply against restrictions

in md3 you are only limited by your hardware.. if you can load 2048x2048x32 texture then you can use it as md3 texture.. (almost) no limits
.. personaly I mostly use textures of size 256x256 (but only becoue my crap video card)

I really don''t think .mdl puts any restriction on texture size. Maybe the halflife engine does (which is why some HL editing sites may say not to use more than 256x256 for .mdl), but most model formats simply store the filename of the texture and U,V coords in 0.0 - 1.0 format. They don''t know how big the texture is, just how to they are mapped to it.
I *could* be wrong though ;¬)
