So someone owns my business name .com, we are in negotiations, but its been a real headache.

I was able to get the .co.

They don't have anything on their .com.

Is it worth the effort and money to try and get the .com?

.co is a ccTLD, the country code top level domain for websites in Colombia, which you may already know after going through the process of buying the domain. The main problem is going to be the hassle every time you tell somebody your domain you have to add, “that's .co, not .com.” A portion of your visitors may wind up going to the .com instead anyway. If the .com domain can be bought for a reasonable price, it'll probably save you some headaches down the road.

If your business grows big enough, and they don't use the domain, you may eventually be able to claim the domain through a trademark claim. That's pretty big and expensive a process, and you need to have a significant revenue stream before that makes sense, though.

Easiest solution: Come up with another domain name that is available instead. The name really doesn't matter. “Coffee Stain” does just fine, and that name is, shall we say, not the most glorious name you can imagine :-)

Why do you need a website? If there is a good reason why you want a website with the name you choose for yourself, then .com is the best choice. But since you don't have big projects yet, you can simply create a page on Steam, Origin, or the Epic Games Store and start from there. Then you can redeem the domain you want.
