Most innovate games of the last decade?

My criteria for 'innovative' games is going to be more about experimenting with game mechanics... my ideas for you to look into...

The Witness

Puzzle game with no instructions, but somehow manages to teach most things to get you through...

Shenzhen I/O

Something about university level hardware coding in a simple enough to follow game... this is up there with the likes of SpaceChem and others.

Pokemon Go / Ingress Prime

Well known for getting people out of the house to go for a walk to catch invisible monsters... for... reasons?

VR Games. They might not be as fun as your traditional games yet but for me they're the most innovative.

Factorio is really nice.

I found the space games that introduced realism into gaming quite innovative, namely Orbiter and Kerbal Space Program. Both aren't the most graphics intensive games, but nevertheless quite time absorbing.

But of course, like any game, one day we've had enough ...
