Improved Data Streaming, Cached Shadows, Refactored Editor, and Better Vegetation are the highlights of the Unigine 2.8 release.
The Improved Asynchronous Data Streaming takes better advantage of multithreading to reduce spikes caused by a load of graphic resources. Geometry and texture streaming is performed in a separate thread.
Cached Shadows allows you to replace dynamic shadows and use baked ones for everything static, reducing load and improving performance.
Shadow quality improvements were also made, including adding a translucent depth, 16K resolution shadow maps, and a separate distance scale multiplier for more flexibility in scenes.
Performance Profiling has also been improved with a new GPU load counter, improved mesh memory consumption, and more.
