Tim Sweeney Explains the 12% Revenue Cut on the Epic Store

Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney has taken to Twitter to explain how online game stores operate and why Epic made the decision to take a 12% revenue cut from devs instead of the 30% cut other stores take.

You have to understand, 30% is an enormous markup. When a grocery store sells an Amazon or iTunes or Steam card, their markup is maybe 10% to 15%. That’s for a physical retail store with shelves continually stocked by workers.
