Hey everyone,
I am a music composition major in my 3rd year of college who is looking to get going in the games industry by being a programmer. I started with Unity and javascript scripting 4 years ago, but switched over to UE4 about 2 years ago and learned blueprints/C++ and I am currently writing my own 2d engine in C++ with SDL. I am starting to look at internships or jobs for this Summer in the Seattle area and want to get some advice on how to proceed.
I have 2 options(maybe more, if any of you have ideas):
1. Continue creating my 2d game engine and become proficient at using SDL and C++ to create lower level systems and such.
2. Switch back to my UE4 project, an arena shooter. It already has wall running, flipping, and multiple types of explosion based weaponry but needs some serious polish.
While I am primarily interested in games, I wouldn't be opposed to working on more enterprise software. I really just want to get my feet wet with programming in a professional environment. What are your thoughts or ideas about landing a first programming job?
