Hello everyone,

I'm new to these forums.

I'm a video game and music enthusiast and recently I have begun work on my first real project in earnest. I am currently creating stock music for a piece of software (in development) called OpenSource RPG Maker. The aim of the project is to create a library of stock music in the style of classic jrpgs for use in software. The software is meant to allow the user to create their own 16-bit style rpg in a manner similar to the popular RPG maker series. Anyway.

Here is a link to the running playlist I have created so far.

I have roughly completed 3 tracks thus far and am interested in getting feedback/criticism. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to check it out

I must say, I'm really impressed with this! Doesn't feel too restricted, and it has a ton of interesting transitions and changes. I like the way the opening theme evolves as well, sounds very adventurous.

One issue I have with the field theme: I'd recommend you change the guitar that plays the harmony to something else more suited to that, maybe like pizzicato strings. It might just be an issue with the midi quality, might be something worth looking into.

Regardless, it still sounds really awesome. I'd recommend trying to mess with the volume and modulation settings on your instruments where it sounds more like a real orchestra. Fantastic work overall!

Thank you for listening and your feedback.

I actually considered recording real guitar for the field theme, as that particular part was the impetus for the song and was composed on guitar. My girlfriend got me a classical guitar last christmas and I have a couple decent mics as well. Because of the scope of the project and my limited time I have been lazy and opted to do the easy thing and focus on writing songs more than making each song super refined yet.

One thing I do try to do with this project is use a few different styles in writing. I feel like I tend to over use string samples in a lot of my work so I have been consciously limiting string parts for that reason.

Again thank you for your feedback, it is much appreciated.

I have nearly completed 5 tracks for this project now, and am interested if anyone else has feedback on what I've done so far. Thanks,
