This is my first time trying to get feedback on a music forum. I've been wanting to, but I've never really had the time and I didn't really know where to go. So hopefully I can get some good feedback! Looking forward to hearing from you guys. Here's something I made a few days ago

Sounds good to me. What kind of feedback in particular are you looking for? Only thing I can think to say is that your dynamic range is a bit on the high side, which in the context of a game is fine in some cases (for a menu maybe) but might be a little difficult to mix in if you have to layer voice overs on top of it or something like that. Also doesn't sound like it would loop naturally. Maybe that's ok, maybe it would be noticeable in a game context.

Hi Jigglibuff. Since this your first time posting music on a forum, you may not have realized this a forum for video game designers. If you want feedback on your track as it pertains to video game music, this is a forum you want to be on.

If you just want feedback in general, on the structure, sounds, recording, mixing etc... go here:

Sorry, but I completely disagree with this post. Your music sounds great and could definitely work in the right kind of game. The moment we start thinking "X style of music wouldn't work in any video game" is the moment our industry starts to die. So please disregard some of the comments in the post quoted above. Your post and your music is definitely welcome here and it's quite lovely! And by the way, we give critiques on structure, sound and general mixing here as well.

My only real critique of your music is that once things start to really get interesting, the piece ends!!! I also felt the strings could have a bit more depth via reverb and/or delay and mess around with the stereo image some. Also around 1:08 or so one of the pan flute notes just sits there. It doesn't go anywhere even though it lasts for a good while. Automate in some dynamics there. Make it go somewhere! Also some of your grace note figures in the piano are pretty blunt. Lessen the velocities on those grace notes so they feel lighter and more organic.

Some really nice ideas. Please keep them coming.

Thanks,

Nate

?? Nate...sincere apologies if that post bothered you. It wasn't clear (to me) what type of feedback jigglybuff was looking for. I wasn't asserting that it wouldn't, or couldn't work in the context of game audio...hey...I wouldn't really be qualified to make the call even if it wasn't lol.

So jigglybuff, if you're still following your thread, please disregard as I've been 'overruled' by a far more experienced member of this forum :D

Kind regards

Jonathan

Jonathan,

My issue was that you were pointing him to a whole other website and making a claim that if someone wanted critique on their music, it would't be served here. But a quick glance through many posts quickly shows that's not the case. People ask and get feedback for their work often on this forum. So I wanted to shut down thinking like that super quick. It's not that I was bothered or upset but that your post went against the entire direction and goal of this forum.

Thanks,

Nate
