Hey whats up all, I need advice in how to create a game design. I have the game design up on my head, how the game will flow, the features, the gameplay etc., but I just don''t know how to start the game design on a page Can someone help me out through the steps of creating one?
"Fight if you have to"
"Fight if you have to"
Start with an outline of roughly how the game will play. No storyline details. Describe the graphics (2D/3D/Iso/FPS), the underlying game structure (Strategy/RPG/Puzzles). Then go into depth with the mechanics of the game and all the objects that need to be mentioned. Finish up with any storyline you may have and a summarization of whatever "point" you''re trying to make with the game.

The basic idea of a gamedesign is to write up EVERYTHING there is to know about the game. It also has the advantage of forcing you to organize and examine your ideas, a game idea that was so cool an hour ago can quickly crumble once you start putting it to paper.
Start at any point you like, filling in content as you go along, then you simply keep writing until you´re out of things to describe.
If youre trying to get organised on an idea and explore it in more detail then the Outline suggested by Symphonic will probably work well for you. And you can always add detail and information.
Always be sure to include scribbles and flowcharts in you design doc, they work wonders when trying to find flaws or problems in the gameflow.

1) Brainstorm
2) Categorise
3) Elaborate
And repeat the process. Generally I work from the general to the specific, which is how I work on anything: programming, writing, etc. Don''t try and find a ''start'' and an ''end'':just do everything in no detail, then everything in a bit of detail, and keep working on everything until it''s explained as well as you need. Once you have it done, the structure is pretty much there: all you have to do is choose the order of presentation.
