I see that it seems to be rated well on the site but some people complain some things are not explained well Others complain it goes to slow (sounds good to me).

Has anyone here tried this course as a complete beginner at c++? Were you able to follow it? Can you actually make games now assuming you have the art assets needed?

Is there anything you would recommend I learn before starting the course?

I would recommend making a few small 2D games using something like SMFL, SDL, etc. Get better at C++ before diving into it. You will get more from it with a better grasp on the language.

I'm following that course It is a good one to break the fear of complex Unity editor, there is no course that will cover every thing. I agree with Mike2343, if your new it is a good idea to do a simple 2D game. A good and free start is "handmade hero". This is more of a game developer taking people step by step to understand how things work. Be warned at this point "handmade hero" is over 400 hours or content (and still going). Good luck.
