Hello, my name is Chase. I have always been interested in computers and specifically sports simulated centered games, and this idea came to me as I saw one of my favorite games had been shut down in 2014; I want to try to develop a "simple" sports simulation game. A game where you can recruit players and watch them play in live games. I have very limited experience with computer programming, hence the fact I am on the Beginner forum. But I am interested in learning and realize that it will take a long time for me to learn the languages needed to create such games. This may sound far fetched, but I just have one question.

Where do I begin? I assume I need to know C++ or a related language(s), but honestly I am clueless where to begin. I will appreciate all advice.

Unless the sport you are trying to simulate is poker I would suggest you start smaller. You don't have to give up on this game idea, but it will be years before you will be able to create it, and it will still probably be simpler than your original vision.

If you are more interested in developing programming skills then C++ isn't a bad place to start. It will challenge you, you will learn a lot, but your games wont be that impressive for a while.

If you want to make games, use an engine.

With either route you take, I would start with 2D games. They are much simpler.
