"So... What do you do?"

I hate this question. How do you explain to people what you do as a game developer? conversations usally go like this: What do you do? -Im a game developer Oh, right, what do you specifically do? / how do you make games -uh, I just tell the game to do stuff, and stuff happens. I make content and put it in the game. I feel like there is no good way to answer the second question, its nice people are interested, but trying to explain game development or any specifics of what I do in laymen's terms, I find, is nigh impossible. It gets worse when they keep pushing for specifics, then you start using jargon like "game engine" or "C++" it flies over peoples heads and they rapidly lose interest. How do you guys answer this question?

I hit a secret button in my shoe that causes my phone to ring and then pretend it is a very important call and I have to go.

- I kid..Well you see, Hollywood actors also gets lots of money, I dont see ppl asking every actor they know why theyre not famous and getting lots of money..I dont see ppl asking writers to make movies and get millionaire, ppl have the clue that getting there is hard and not every actor/writer is a big shot in the area..Its kinda like this for game dev.

When I read this,

questions -> What are you doing?
answer -> Write magic

What I actually saw/read was,

questions -> What are you doing?
answer -> White magic

And my thoughts were,

questions -> He's a mage?
answer -> I'm in the wrong ****ing business.
