Q: What do you do?

A: I am a computer programmer

Q: What type of programs?

A: I make games, apps etc...

Q: Oh cool! How do you make games!?

A: Follow me on Twitter @TutorialDoctor

hahaha.

They call me the Tutorial Doctor.

A: So what do you do?

B: Intranet Developer?

A:....what's that?

B: Well. To tell the truth, I'm the reason why you still have trees and all the ice caps haven't melted.

A: **shock** Really? Bu...

B: If I tell you anymore, you may have a visit from men dressed in black.

A: Oh. Well. Thanks for all you do.

B: **smiles** **nods**

A: **scurries away**

That's how that convo normally goes.

Was that a typo? Did you mean to say:

Oh god do I have some stories.

Just try to follow the date timeline for implimentations.

I've been considering submitting it to the wikipedia "Gates of hell" article.

Q: What do you do?

A: I'm mostly a game programmer.

Q: GAMES! That sounds fun! How do you do it?

A: I start with a bunch of complex rules, something like the Dungeons and Dragons rulebook. Then I use a bunch of math, like statistics and linear algebra, and lots of computer code in languages like C++, C#, and Java, to turn those rulebooks into something the computer can run.

Q: Sounds hard, is it something I can do?

A: I don't know, how is your linear algebra? How are your statistics? How is your programming? If I asked for a distribution similar to rolling three six sided dice, could you do it? If I gave you a transformation matrix and asked you to make it move forward by three, could you do it?

Q: ... mumble ...

Sometimes I do that, too. smile.png

I just silently stare at them until they get uncomfortable and go away. Works great for all potentially annoying conversations, btw.

Some people will take that as an invitation to blather incessantly forever about whatever crosses their little minds, thinking you're an interested party and they are entirely oblivious to any cues you might give them that you're not the least bit interested in anything they have to say.

Q: Sounds hard, is it something I can do?

A: Maybe, but don't; working in games is awful.

Q: But then why do you do it?

A: I made poor life choices.
