Banner advertising on GDNet for $5!

We're currently experimenting with opening up our advertising to the community at a low cost!

At the time of posting there are still only two ads in rotation (which means potentially 800,000 views for your ad), so if you get in early you'll get the most exposure for your project, services, or whatever you're offering!

Why are we doing this?

We need your help to keep the site running and freely available. We're struggling to raise enough money from major ad networks, and we're also aware that some of the ads they show on our site are annoying or not always of interest to our audience. We're experimenting with opening up our advertising to you for only a few dollars per month!

How does it work?

First, read our post on "Opening Up Advertising to the Community" for some more details.

Next, get yourself a GDNet+ subscription. This can be as cheap as a one-off $5 payment, although the yearly subscription is the best value if you'd like to remain subscribed. All proceeds go directly towards supporting the site.

Once your subscription is active you should be able to purchase ad units (such as our 728x90 leaderboard ad) and upload your ads from the store. The price for an ad unit should be free for all members with active GDNet+ subscriptions!

Note that once submitted adverts must be manually approved for display on the site -- we'll get to this as soon as possible, usually within a couple of hours.

This is a bit of an experiment, and we haven't set firm rules on what will or won't be allowed yet -- obviously nothing that breaks the site's rules, and no illegal content, and we won't allow this to be an outlet for spammers -- we also expect some minimal level of quality/professionalism, so take some time to make your ad look good!

If you have any questions or feedback use the comments on the linked article or head over to our "Comments, Suggestions & Ideas forum".

Happy advertising!

There are still only a small number of ads in rotation, get in soon and you'll get loads of exposure!

To give you an idea of the possible results, the first ad placed has now been active for just a couple of days and already has over 13,200 views!

Help us keep the site running and advertise your products or services at the same time! :)

If you'd like to support the site but don't have anything to advertise, please consider adding an exception to your ad-blocking software so that it's disabled for our site -- for the next couple of months you'll be seeing ads direct from your fellow members!

There are more ads in rotation now, but still a fairly small number, so there's lots of exposure to be had by advertisers - we're surprised more people aren't giving this ago, it's a pretty amazing deal for the price!

Still only a small number of ads in rotation - this is a great deal guys, we're surprised it's not more popular! :)

How do you make payments ?

I have stopped giving my CC number out a long time ago, and will only use Paypal .

You're in luck -- PayPal is our primary method of taking payment. :)

I purchased up, but will not be putting my add in for another week or so. Thanks for this great opportunity.

Purchased it! Don't quite understand the part about the number of ad slots, are we supposed to buy the free ad multiple times to get a greater chance of it being displayed?

All ads in the system get an equal time-share being displayed on the site, so we'll only approve one copy if you submit multiple identical ads - the ads can point to the same url if it's a different banner though.

You are however welcome to put multiple different ads into rotation (by buying the free ad multiple times). I'm not sure of the specific numbers, but members with higher rep scores are allowed to have more ads in rotation at once -- if you go over your allowed amount the system will just bump your oldest ad out of rotation and continue to display your other ads. With 3,000+ rep you should be able to upload at least a couple more into rotation if you'd like. :)

Does that make sense?
