Hello everybody,

First, I would like to say that I am Brazilian, so I am sorry for my English, I am not a native speaker.

I would like to share with you one project that I have been visioning and ask for help.

I have been planning to develop an educational game based on a traditional test here in Brazil. This test is applied by the government to recruit people for federal agencies. The test includes questions of History of Brazil, World history, Geography etc. I would like to develop a game where you improve your knowledge for the test and have fun. I’ve been thinking in something more complex than a quiz, but more simple than a RPG. The ideal must be something like the classic “Carmen San Diego” model, in which you answer some questions to accomplish a task.

I have basic programming skills, I have already developed “mods” for games like “Doom”, but this is now a serious project that I would like to monetize. I don’t want to “reinvent the road”, so I would like to find an already made game with all the features that I need, edit it, improve it and sell it. Searching on the internet I have found some platforms like Buildbox or GameSalad, but they don’t seen to be very good for educational games, and the first is very expensive, so is kind of risky to chose it.

I am totally sure that If I succeed in developing this game I can sell it, by a modest price, for at least 1,000 people. There are around 10,000 people applying for this test every year, and the market is very rewarding. There are several forums on the internet where people applying for the test exchange ideas. I can publish my game there very easy. People applying for the test are around 22-30 years old, so they are the perfect market for online games.

People, what do you think about my idea? How can I make this project get real? Do you think that there is an ideal platform for me?

You will not be able to transform someones game to your liking and monetize it without the makers/copyright holders consent and source code. But a simple question and answer game can be coded very easy in any frame work but you do need programming skills.

Spamming is forbidden, at least in most countries so be carefull with publishing it on any network that is not your own without the owners consent.

Best platform? What platform do these 10.000 potential customers use? There are plenty of frameworks that port to multiple platforms when finished. I would go for Java/LibGDX and port it initially to Windows/Android/HTML5 (Free) and if there is a market get the IOS license (paid, RoboVM) as well.

Obviously you need some basic programming experience but other then that once you get to know your framework/engine then a simple trivia game should be easy to make.

Thank you for the answer.

Searching on the internet, I discovered this site where you can buy pre-made games, reskin and port to multiple platforms: http://www.chupamobile.com/

However, I did not find anything similar to what I wanted to create. I wanted something similar to the "Carmen San Diego" model. Do you thing that Unity is a good tool for helping me to create this kind of game?
