Indie game developers getting screwed by PAX?

Was just reading this article about how an indie gaming company was promised a booth at PAX, bought tickets, and then got totally screwed over. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Article here. (warning: may be dream-crushing!)

Have we read the same story?

I don't see where it says that Pax said they were in and then turned their back on them.

From my standpoint, they simply never received accreditation to even HAVE a booth. They were stuck with the generic email reply and no one followed up.

That's hardly screwing over, it's just having a floor filled up in a matter of minutes...

In a move that left us all extremely disappointed, PAX’s sales team left us hanging for weeks without returning our emails, and ultimately denied us the opportunity to even submit an application for floor space at the event, giving preferred treatment to AAA developers and other established exhibitors. We ended up relocating our PAX booth to Fan Expo Canada—another large convention that happened to fall on the same weekend.

Quote from the story

Yeah looks like they just never received a response, not really the definition of screwing over. Think of how many people wanted a booth there, not everyone is going to get to show.

Also they sound like they had been planning this since spring before even being confirmed for a spot and had spent their money and had everything ready prior to getting conformation.

Also both of the op's only posts are related to that story and pretend to be an external eye. I sense foul play?

A friend here was on the waiting list for a space in the PAX "Indie MEGABOOTH", seeing they sell out immediately. Someone else dropped out, so he got one at the last minute (about 2 weeks before the event).
It's notoriously hard and/or ridiculously expensive to get booths at big events like that, which is why the indie megabooth exists. Did you try to scope space with them?

I'll straight up say that the OP is involved in that incident and is just link-spamming his own blog over the internet.
Not the best way to start a discussion, OP... Does not make your company look professional.

It appears that the OP is at least quite close to the company in question. It's not the first time (s)he has linked their blog, and in the same spammy way across multiple forums.

I didn't have proof, but I'm always careful when someone registers an account, makes two posts about something 'scandalous' and never returns to read replies in the days after...

As it appears, the OP may be very close to said incident, and though it's quite fine to discuss this, I feel it is misleading to pretend to be an objective and impartial readerwhen, really, the poster at least knows one party directly involved in said incident.

Definitely not my place to say, but there's a rotten smell about this...

Setting aside the OP's involvement, it's just not that interesting a story. "We couldn't get into PAX as an exhibitor and we totally thought we would."

I see a whole lot of mistakes:

- Contacting PAX without following up.
- Assuming PAX isn't completely slammed by everyone else as well.
- Complaining that life isn't fair.
- Complaining about money spent when nothing had been confirmed.

And then at the bottom:
