Browsers have become the ultimate bloatware. Reading a little HTML, showing some gif/png/jpg image embedded in it and being able to save a linked file should be all thats needed. Its just that over time there appeared embedded script language, plugins need to be installed so people need not install programs on their computer or do another click to start some downloaded file or to prevent the scripts from running cause of more and more added security vulnerabilities, embedded pdf viewers that run much slower than saving the file and doubleclicking it and all kinds of other garbage.
