So ya, Just finally got my registration issues sorted out, and I'm finally able to post and all that.

Anywyas, usually I consider it common courtesy for new members to introduce themselves on forums, so I guess it's my turn.

(if this type of thread is not welcome because some moderators think its ego stroking or calling needless attention to new members, etc. then my bad, just want people to get a chance to know who I am, because I might be commenting on fellow works, I guess my bio is for that, but I'd like to do a more formal thing. From my few months of perusal this seems like a relativelly mature community)

So might as well start with where I came from, I'm from the now esentially dead official Command and Conquer Community forum, formally managed by Electronic Arts.

There I engaged in story and mechanical discussion and Idea critique from 2007-2010, then in 2010 I got involved with my 1st mod project. And after that, I was hooked on game design, no longer was I satisfied by posting ideas, I had to see them made. Although I possess no technical skill per say, I did story writing, public relations and project coordination. Although that 1st project didn't succeed, I moved onto my current project, which continues some of the work I started back in 2010.

Overall I'd say I'm more a systems person instead of a gamer. For example, I don't play games for the typical reason most people do. Most people play games to relax, I on the other hand have always and probably always will get involved in games to manage and create systems, be they social, mechanical or otherwise.

(Although I don't have any technical programming skills, I've found that If I know enough about how the system and mechanics work, I can repurpose them to fit the desired mechanic on a conceptual level. In other words, logic my way through a problem, despite not knowing the technical skill to get it done)

I'm also a psych major & management minor at my university, and have a personal research focus on how people interact and organize in online environments (particularly Clans/ leagues/ guilds/etc)

I'm glad I found this place, and I'm sure as I get to know more of yall we'll have a lot of favorable discussions.

Let me know if I can help any of yall in any way, I look forward to interacting with this creative community.

Thanks for your time,

-Jist

Edit:

I also didn't want to be one of those people who posts a job advert and then leaves.

Hi. You being a new member, I will start by offering you some advice...

Some boards have the ability for others to rate your posts, but not this one. This reflects your member score.

So in these boards, such as For Beginners, Game Design, Programming, etc., you will generally not get downvoted unless you make sweeping generalizations, argue off-topic, or generally post off-topic.

Points don't matter a ton, but just if you care ;).

Also, if you want to see me and some others, some of us pretty much only come to Chat these days. Chat can get wild sometimes but is also often funny and entertaining.

Welcome!

Welcome to the community! Introducing yourself is fine here - we don't bite. smile.png

If you do decide to do some recruiting, we have a special Classifieds system set up for that. It costs money (very inexpensive - like $10) if the project is a commercial project, but is free if the project is being released for free.

Recruiting details aside, I'd love to hear about your current project, just to see what cool projects other people are working on. Got any screenshots you could share?

I'm also casually interested in the shaping and guiding of online communities, though I have no background or degrees in either psych or management (I didn't know you even could major in psychic powers!).

When you say 'systems' person, are you talking about the mechanics and hidden rules of game worlds or something else?

Here's my project:

Thx, already found the clasified section and posted.

Ya, when you study psych for as long as I have, you get lvl 5 mind reading.

As for Systems, ya, what you said, and anything from mechanics, dynamics, balancing and streamlining them with a faction's style theme, units and entire system of existence (more experienced with RTS, as yall may have gathered)

basically the standard definition of a system:

Hi, Welcome to "Whose Line is it Anyway", where coding is all that matters, and the points do the math. Here's your first 100 points.
