Usually, when I write a new blog entry, after I've published it to my site, cross-linked it over here, and done the facebook and twitter posts to spam my relatives and the four people that have probably ever looked at my twitter feed, I sometimes will submit the link to hacker news. Most of the time, I don't get any real boost in traffic from that, but on two occasions now, I've gotten hundreds or even a thousand unexpected page views on a post. Most of the time, it seems to come from Feedly or Flipboard.

Some common characteristics of both posts:

1.) They were both posted on saturday mornings.

2.) Both are quite long.

3.) Both eventually ended up being in the featured developer's journal section on the home page of this site, although I saw the big spike in traffic long before that happened, within an hour of posting to HackerNews.

4.) Almost no traffic coming directly from HackerNews itself.

I'm not sure what is going on here, although I'd like to figure it out... There are definitely days when Hacker News is slower, and it does tend to be on the weekend. A disproportionate chunk of my ad revenue has come from two days out of the last year, haha.

Have any of you experienced similar odd spikes in visitors?
