Why are we even mentioning game developers as candidates for "best software engineer"(whatever that means)? I mean, I have little idea what actually happens in such places, but I'd guess the absolute "best of the best", truly genius-level software engineers mainly work in NASA, CERN, nuclear reactor facilities, military, places like that...or is that a misconception of mine?
Best living engineer?

I don't know. I've dealt with one bit of nuclear related software that kept throwing an error "Meltdown not detected". Then again, "genius" is a rather vague and murky concept.

That's probably a watchog system, if it doesn't get a Meltdown Not Detected every so often it probably shuts down the system as safely as possible?
There are probably better ways to implement it though ;)

Hm..How is "Meltdown not detected" an error? Then, "Meltdown detected" is NOT an error?

The design constantly throws this as a system error. It is an insanely awkward design, no one on the development team likes it, but it works and no one has bothered to try and fix the code to something that works in a more sane fashion.
It also really throws people for a loop if they glance at the error console screen. Because of the length of the total message and the display it was tied to on the monitor setup, it truncated that message. So it provided this long string of text (that I really can't remember) with the last of the line being "Meltdown " repeated over and over again about twice a second.

Blaise Pascal?
He made a mechanical calculator as a kid for his dad. And came up with Pascal combinatory triangle as second grader when teacher gave kids a task to add numbers from 1 up to 100 together to keep them quiet. He just multiplied 101 by 50.
Considering the unlucky age he lived in, If he lived now, I wonder what he would make.
