I'm trying to make a list of websites that help people make games for free ("free" being the keyword). By "help people make games" I mean everything from learning how to make games, team-building, making the game, and sharing the game. This is it so far.

Right now the list is humorously small. Does anyone know any other websites that would be good to add?

Sites that have free icons/graphics for your games: www.iconfinder.com , www.iconarchive.com

Some specifically for audio: www.freesound.org , www.therecordist.com/free-sfx , www.partnersinrhyme.com/pirsounds/WEB_DESIGN_SOUNDS_WAV/SOUNDFX.shtml

One that have both audio and graphics: www.opengameart.org

I'm not sure if you'd like to include this in your list, but to many who are new to game design a very useful way to learn is hands on. One of the best hands-on tools to get involved in is DarkBasic. It's free (although there are paid packages) and there's plenty of help from that community to turn the unexperienced in the right direction. They definitely help people make games for free. Google it if you're not familiar with it. It's a great place for people to start who are on a budget.

Not sure if they count, references to games are always made but its mostly on the visuals than anything, Nvidia have some lower level examples here too.

DirectX SDK + documentation is good too

All free, but more focused on graphics than game design

Thanks for your help, everyone! I added some of these links as well as references to the people who posted them. :)
