Those percentages all depend on what speed cpu it is, as well as what type. Giving percentages like that without a rough idea of the cpu its for is pointless... it could be 2-5% of a 286''s processing power, or 2-5% of a P4 2ghz.

My bad... obviously, it''s dependant on CPU speed, and CPU type. Those are the approximates for an AMD Athlon 1.33 ghz (or the likes). Anyways, I was just making a generalized statement that different sound cards, different ANYTHINGs can and do affect performance levels. Just because I Gamer X has an Athlon 750 + GF2, and Gamer Y has an Athlong 750 + GF2... doesn''t mean the program will run the same. Things like background programs, sound card, mouse type/interface, joysticks, driver revisions, (obviously OS), network cards, modems, etc, etc. Anything that uses drivers/interrupts will slow a machine down... how much is dependant on the machine. I''m just saying that it''s everything AND sounds cards and input devices... not everything BUT them.

well im on a PII 450mhz, 512RAM, 64mb Geforce 2, 13gb HD with 6gb used, and my refresh rate is set at 85Hz.

now what i mean is that im getting really bad framerates, i can usually play games at about 30fps rendering tons of polys with a 1024x768 res, but in my progs that have about 10,000 polys, it gets like 5fps

i want it to have a bit more fps than like 5
alot will depend on the game you are playing and the kind of special effects and stuff that you have enabled.
what games would you be talking about usually getting 30FPS?
some games are real power hogs(most recent games)
if you don''t have a decent system these days you can''t really play anything.
