My download speed is ~20KB Max.

Thanks in advance.

Well, in three days they're going to shut off all of the previews, so you may want to rethink the download. It is supposed to be a $70 upgrade for Win7 users. Also, from the version numbers, it looks like Windows 8 is really Windows Vista SP2.

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about it and I'm looking forward to getting it. Just, don't be silly.

Its just a waste of time. Once the 90 day trial is done, your only option is to uninstall the OS, you can't use a license key to register it or anything like that.

It's easy to install on a Virtual Machine if you don't have a spare box to install to (you don't want to use a preview to replace what you're using as a main machine, as it will expire, and can't be upgraded to the real version). Google for some articles showing the exact settings to use on various VM software.

Main downside of using a VM is that it still seems a bit flaky with the graphics support, at least for me. Also some of the new mouse gestures don't work so well - e.g., moving the mouse to the edge/corner of the screen is hard, when in a VM your mouse overshoots the window. But it lets you get a feel of what it's like.

Also note that the "Dev Preview" is old - since then we've had the Consumer Preview, the Release Preview, and the RTM. The last of these is the one you want. Or alternatively, in 2 days it'll be out to buy.

It is supposed to be a $70 upgrade for Win7 users.
Note that until 31 Jan 2013, people can upgrade online for only $40, though I think it'll be $70 if you want a physical DVD.

I don't know about developer previews, but consumer previews end in January. FWIW.

Yep, and to add to this, the RTM (should be the same as the official release that comes out tomorrow) is set to a 90 day trial from when you install it.

You can certainly 'upgrade' from the RTM to a bought copy in the same way you'd upgrade a windows 7 installation. Download from MS store, run installer, ask it to keep your programs and settings.
