I've just finished playing Portal 2 and I have to say it's the best game I've ever played. Not because of the puzzles but because the whole game is like a movie. I got it today and couldn't stop playing until I finished it. It gave me shivers at the end. I haven't played the first portal but still, the story is just amazing. Even if it was a relatively small story just the little things like how GLaDOS is actually the artificial intelligence of aperture science's founder's wife. The bit near the start where you hook up Wheatley was pretty brilliant too. I genuinely thought the game was ending and it was disappointing but I mean wow. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Wheatley at the end though ;D
But seriously, wow.
Portal 2, Amazing game.
Personally, I think games should strive to be different from films. In my eyes, saying a game is good because it is "like a movie", ignoring its gameplay, is actually misguided. Should Valve have just made Portal 2 a film - would it have been an even better "game" then?
I believe the strength and weakness of games lies in their interactive nature - this is what distinguishes the medium. Storyline, art direction, sound and music, these are all interesting aspects of games and should be aimed at, but never to the detriment of the core gameplay.
That said, I enjoyed Portal 2. Not as an interactive film, but as a game which happened to have an excellent script and eye for humour, along with brilliant art, sound, music, etc. I don't feel Valve sacrificed the gameplay, for the story or other reasons, in this instance. I preferred the first one though, it had more "focus".

Spoilers mate!, spoilers!....nah, jk, anyone who hasn't played it by now should know to expect them.
anyway, i loved the game, and you should defiantly play the first as it's an amazing game as well.
I just hate that the replayability of the game is so low, since after beating a puzzle, it becomes pretty much a cake-walk to go back and play again(even playing with friends who haven't played is hard, since you don't want to just run through the game on them)
Check out https://www.facebook.com/LiquidGames for some great games made by me on the Playstation Mobile market.
I strongly disagree. Compared to first portal, I think it was a step in action, layout and pace. It's still a good game but quite over-hyped in my opinion.

If you have the game on the pc (and if you don't, you're doing it wrong ), there are tonnes of community made puzzles from the recently released in-game designer and some of them are excellent. They've even added co-op to it (the designer) now.
if you think programming is like sex, you probably haven't done much of either.-------------- - capn_midnight

Sure I liked the gameplay and it's very addicting but at the points where you are doing puzzle after puzzle in the test chambers does feel a bit repetitive. I mean movie in terms of that feeling you get after you've watched it; Like you've just seen this amazing thing and you want it to go on but it doesn't. I do usually enjoy games for gameplay and fun mechanics but this game just made me speechless at the end credits.
Dammit I wan't to play it again now.

I praise the Portal franchise for being bold enough to end the game while it is still reasonably fresh. That is exactly the feeling I don't get with lots of games, by the time you get to an end it just feels like a slog to get to the credits. I did feel in Portal 2 a slight drag towards the 2/3 mark, which I don't recall from the first.

Do yourself a favour and try the original too.
I haven't played it, but this made me chuckle.
I was hoping you were going to link to this (seeing as it's close-ish to 2013):

Yes! Check
here (and they're rated quite accurately so start with the highest rated ones first).
And I agree that Valve totally got the sequel right. The humor, polish, pacing, etc. all were pulled off well.
