I don''t think the contest topic changed either. I feel very sorry for america and the loss it has suffered but I think some people take it too far. I don''t beleive that the apocalypse theme will offend anyone and if it does, like theGilb says, some people will be offended by anything.

P.S. on copyright, I don''t want to carry it on but thx aSe & theGilb. I understand now and won''t bother trying anymore. *sigh* its a shame though.
Apocalypse Contest

Hi!
So the contest''s theme is not end of the world;
which means meteor/earth collision is out the
question?
Thanks in advance

TheGilb did an excellent job tackling the toughest contest questions. Read his post!
Huge respect for the bit on OpenSource code! His attitude towards this is great! My own two cents... if someone uses your code, feel good! If someone took your code out of all of the code available on the net, it must be good
Hopefully you get what I''m trying to say.
Unless your a huge corp. there''s no real reason to hunt people down. If someone wants your code bad enough, they''ll do everything they can to get it. I''ve had best friends take my code, modify it, then tell other friends of mine they made it. Does it bother me... nah... it used to but hey... I know I made it, and if someone asked me to prove it, I''d be the one coding from scratch, and he''d be the one searching his drive for code snippets!
I''ve heard a few people ask "who can enter". The answer is simple... ANYONE!!! I will ship these prizes anywhere in the world... so if you want to win, quit reading this forum and code code code!!!
To Drizzt DoUrden... Trust me, you wouldn''t want to have lunch with me! When it comes to OpenGL / code talk, I can go on and on. After an evening with me, you''d go home and throw out your computer {grin}.
Do you guys understand what is meant by not using libraries?
For the hundredth time
I just don''t want people hiding their code and I don''t want people using libraries to do everything!
Sound libraries, yes, use them if you want. Image libraries, use them if you want. GLUT... of course you can use GLUT!

BTW NeHe... may I write a series of tutorials of my entry ?Because the pure (commented) C++ code isn''t easy to understand... drop me a line if you''re interested! (balash@freemail.hu)
Why use DirectX ? Directsound has some good features, like 3d buffers, though I think I''ll use FMOD instead... correct me if I''m wrong, but I think it is open-source.

Meteor Is OK of course, that''s apocalypse
You can use DirectX, as long as the render API is OGL
Lots of you seems worried about what is and what is not in the subject
let''s take a few example
- an human looking at an ant nest blowing up is NOT OK
- an ant nest blowing up seen from the point of view of the ant, that sees her city destroyed is OK
Well, the theme is mainly about a major destruction fact or anything that has to do with apocalypse (like the one in the bible).
But, it''s really alomost you wanna do
We won''t throw away an entry unless it really doesn''t have anything to do with the theme.
For the entries, it would even be better to send them to Nehe and me at the same time

Gonosz: No FMOD isn''t open source, it''s just got a funky license which says you can use the library for free as long as whatever you make using the library is freeware

Ja, you''re right, TheGilb... anyway it''s allowed 8)
aah back to coding 24-7, good luck to you all!

p.s.: vannak itt még magyarok rajtam kívül ?

From the site:
> Because this is a site related contest, you should use the basecode from this site.
> If you are using your own basecode, it should be reasonably commented and easy to understand.
These points seem to be contradictory. Does that mean that using Nehe''s basecode is prefered, but you are not forced to ? I''ve already written a big part of my code and i wouldn''t like to have to change it just to use the basecode.

Ysaneya:
I reckon that if you have started then SKSlayer isn''t going to throw it away. They''re letting you use GLUT and that doesn''t use the NeHe Basecode. It probly just means that they would prefer you to use the NeHe Basecode.
I started this topic by asking how many people were entering. I''m now wondering what people are making 4 their demos. I''m making a struggle between death and an angel. What are other people doing. As said before, the theme allows a lot of variation.

That''s a good theme, even though some doesn''t like it because of 11 september events. The contest was planned way before, and we can''t stop our lives because of it, else, the terrorist wins.
Yes, you can use you basecode, if YOU made it, or simply nehe''s one, or GLUT.
