It was about time somebody put Apple in its place.
- Nauseating secrecy.
- Unsatisfied Employees
- Objective C is one of the worst languages in creation.
Personally I think they are the #2 worst technology company today, #1 being Electronic Arts

its nice that some courts put their foot down, this litigation game is pretty darn insane, (Saw that the USPTO has handed Apple yet another software/design patent so i fear things will get worse). The only good thing is that most of the truly insane patents don't get granted in the EU, (so here the fights are more over product designs or patents that actually deserve some protection)

Have you read the full story? The judge ruled that Samsung couldn't have copied the iPad as their design is "not as cool"

If I was in Apples marketing dept, this would be all my Christmases come at once.

From a purely technological perspective (rather than practical), http://www.apple.com/ is one of my most favourite websites to visit. I'm always ecstatic to see what it gets updated with. It's just so beautifully designed and well executed. When it comes to technology, they're the ones who get closest to the state of perfection imo than anyone else.

From a purely technological perspective (rather than practical), http://www.apple.com/ is one of my most favourite websites to visit. I'm always ecstatic to see what it gets updated with. It's just so beautifully designed and well executed. When it comes to technology, they're the ones who get closest to the state of perfection imo than anyone else.
You're probably more interested in the aesthetic, design, and user experience than the technological perspective if that's your favorite place to visit. There's other places on the Internet where you can get updated on more advanced technological advancements than Apple's home page. Apple's just really good at making things look nice and presentable, and then focusing on the user experience to streamline workflows and aesthetics. From a purely technological perspective, there's very little on that website that's interesting (compared to other things I could be reading about technology from other places). It's not their technology that's interesting; it's their design.
At least that's how I see it.
As for the OP's topic, I'm glad about the ruling. Honestly, the sue-happy tech world has me disgusted. I wish companies would just focus on making awesome products than focusing on who can whine the loudest. I wish the judge wouldn't have said that Samsung's tablet wasn't as "cool" as the iPad, because that's a completely relative point of view that can be misused if uttered while acting in a position of authority.

One other thing I really appreciate about Apple's approach (and their website, as well as documentation, boxes, etc.) is the consistency and polish. Especially the design consistency. All the fonts, the spacing, the images, are very consistent throughout their presence. You won't find misaligned paragraphs, or a strangely sized font, or other things that just don't fit in. At least compared to pretty much all other websites out there.

I don't get it why that blog post is so extatic. A formal apology is a slap on the wrist at best, and as ChaosEngine pointed out, not even so in this case.
I'm still waiting for a court to rule that someone abusing the patent/copyright/utility-model system (not necessarily Apple, or not necessarily Apple alone) has to pay 100 million euros of repairs for the libel and damages done. Or, put the CEO in prison for 3 months for libel... anything that really makes the next patent troll think twice.

The thing that I dislike is hype about Apple, from the mainstream media, all the way down to individuals. I mean, millions of us like Samsung, and consider them the ones who get closest to the state of perfection (imo), but we don't post a comment about how wonderful we find their products like someone did in this post for Apple. Things like "font sizing consistency on their website" is not really relevant to the story. (It's rare that I actually need to visit a company webpage to look at a product I'm interested in anyway, and if I do, I'll Google my way right to the relevant page.)
And I'm sure that "Stuffy old judge says Apple are cool" is a real marketing point... [Actually I'm not sure how old he is, and he may well be a cool guy, but members of the establishment like judges are not exactly seen by the public as prime candidates for portraying a hip and cool image.]
He was taking the pee. It means that if Apple tried to appeal, they'd have to say "Oh no, the judge was wrong, our product isn't as cool".
