.X Files...
Hi!
I am getting into 3D programming and I need a program that is (hopefully) free or has a demo or soemthing that will let me create .X files for D3D! If anyone can give me some names, sites, or something, I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks a lot.

trueSpace 4.3, which you can get for $99 right now, has decent .X export, it just flips UV coordinate on export - annoying but easy to work around. If you''re willing to shell out a little more cash, you can get a great .X exporter for Lightwave (I believe the plugin is free). MilkShape also has the beginnings of .X export - not sure how well it works.
Or, you can use any 3D program, and convert the file using 3D Exploration, which I would recommend getting anyway, as it lets you tweak a lot of the object settings that may not export from the program you created the object in.

Whatever they are paid to use. In a game development house, whatever the game company has bought.
Once you have the modelling concepts and art skills down, moving between products shouldn''t be terribly difficult.
So just learn to model in whatever you have. If you''re a great artist in Milkshape (for example) companies know that it won''t take you long to switch to whatever they use.
